DEAR READERS AND NEW VISITORS....MY BLOG IS HAVING A FEW TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES WITH OLDER POSTS,THE TRIANGLE WHERE A PHOTO SHOULD BE. I AM SLOWLY GOING BACK RELOADING THEM!

Aloha To Summer Fro-Yo Party

I am not ready to let go of summer.  Not yet. Yesterday I shared how to throw a end of summer party in less than two hours.  Today is another great way to celebrate with minimal work!  We hosted an Aloha To Summer Fro-Yo Party at our local shop and let me tell you, my love of rolling up to a spot, partying and rolling out never gets old.

Aloha To Summer Fro-Yo Party

It is the perfect way to get friends together, especially those you haven't seen over the summer, and have one last hurrah before school starts.  Our school district doesn't start until after Labor Day, and between high school check ins, sports and some not back from vacation, it is a busy week!

Aloha To Summer Fro-Yo Party; toppings bar

If you have a favorite ice cream or fro-yo spot, check to see if they host parties.  We paid a flat fee per cup that the kids could fill up to their hearts' desire.  Other fro-yo spots let you do all you can eat...but middle and high school kids hopped up on sugar is not a pretty sight for their adults, so proceed with caution.

FYI, there is something about seeing all kinds of toppings all laid out...I never get tired of that.

I kept our decor easy and minimal, starting with a fun tropical paper runner and breaking out my extensive honeycomb stash and palm leaves.  I've been dying to use our flamingo balloon all summer and he was perfect floating over our table. Tucking in a few faux blooms and sprinkling the table with tropical confetti and our look came together.

All I needed to bring was a few beverages (they provided water) and let the kids catch up and amuse themselves.  Seriously, the easiest party ever! I can't wait to throw a few more get-togethers here...

How To Throw A End Of Summer Party In Less Than Two Hours

Labor Day is this weekend and summer is coming to an end -- two great reasons to gather friends and family for one more backyard bash. Of course, having time to put something together is always the challenge...so I challenged myself to put together an end of summer party in less than two hours.

How To Throw A End Of Summer Party In Less Than Two Hours

I’ve thrown more get-togethers that take weeks of planning and prep than I can count. That being said, life is busy; very few people have that kind of time.  That doesn't mean you can't put together a fabulous party in a few hours!

I am counting a trip to the store in the time as well...but if you are one of those people who have a fabulous grocery delivery service, you can cut your time in half.  For the rest of us, my secret to one-stop shopping...Trader Joe's.  From hors d'oeuvres to fresh flowers to an amazing wine selection, you can't beat their prices and selection.

Fall Color Trend: Indigo

A great fall color trend, indigo pairs well with a variety of traditional fall color from oranges to deep greens and also works well on its own. It brings a rich depth with everything from furniture and tabletops to accent pieces and apparel.

Back To School Pencil and Notebook Paper Inspired Ideas

Both of my boys go to schools where everything is all about technology; they do almost every class on Chromebooks and iPads! I still have old school tendencies and want them to still do 'work' with a pencil and notebook paper!

I'm over on Moms and Munchkins, feeding that urge with pencil and notebook paper inspired ideas for back to school.

DIY Notebook Covers

I have been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #CreateWithHP #CollectiveBias

We live and breathe by our very old HP PSC 1315, from school and work projects to printing photos, it has seen many years of projects. Alas, it has reached the point where it only feeds one sheet of paper at a time…it is time for an upgrade! The HP Deskjet 3636 from Walmart is a great printer that can take the beating of our busy household.

DIY Notebook Covers with HP 3636

Coming in 3 cool colors, Vibrant Red (our color), Dragonfly Blue, Sporty Purple, it is easy to keep it simple with an affordable all-in-one printer, scanner and copier.  It has great features our old printer didn't have.  Not only do I now have wireless printing from my laptop, I can connect my smartphone directly to my printer—and easily print without accessing a network.

DIY Notebook Covers aka How To Cover A Boring Notebook

Since it can print up to twice as many pages with Original HP high-yield ink cartridges, I'm getting more high-quality prints and borderless photos to printables;  just what we needed, especially for getting back into school and work mode!

Speaking of which, don't send a boring notebook or composition book to school; I created a free paintbrush notebook cover you can use to turn an inexpensive pad into a fun project.  I even snuck in a bonus balloon dog print...

What You'll Need:

spiral notebook (mine measures 7" x 5") and/or composition book
paintbrush or BONUS balloon dog printable (both options you can download HERE)
white cardstock
scissors
Mod Podge
foam paintbrush
hole punch

To create the spiral bound notebook cover

1. Print the notebook cover(s) of your choice on white cardstock. If you wish to cover the back of the notebook, you'll need two per notebook.
2. Carefully remove the covers from the spiral of your notebook. Depending on the type of spiral, the hook is on the back or in the middle of the spiral to prevent snagging.
3. Paint a thin layer of Mod Podge all over the front of the notebook cover(s) and position the printed cover to your liking, then smooth to adhere to the notebook cover.
4.  Set aside to dry, then trim the excess paper off the cover(s).
5.  Use the hole punch to punch out the notebook holes.
6.  Reassemble the notebook.

To create the composition book cover

1. Print the notebook cover(s) of your choice on white cardstock. If you wish to cover the back of the composition book, you'll need two per book.
2.  Trim the left/right sides of the printable so it will butt against the black trim of the comp book. You can trace the comp book onto the back of your printable and cut out or if you are like me and don't trust your tracing skills, trim after you have adhered it to the comp book.
3. Paint a thin layer of Mod Podge all over the front of the comp book cover(s) and position the printed cover to your liking, then smooth to adhere to the notebook cover. To make sure the cover doesn’t curl, place a heavy book on top for an hour or so, until dry.
4.  If needed, trim the excess paper off the cover(s).

If you want to cover several notebooks, use a piece of black chalkboard tape and a white pen to label the different subjects!

Popcorn Snack Bags

I like party ideas that are so simple to execute and make you look like a party genius. It's back to school season and yesterday I shared some party must haves whether you are having a full-blown back to school party or playdate.  The most important party though, of any party are cute snacks.

School themed popcorn snack bags

This month's Whisker Graphics Design Team project is just that! The hardest part was trimming and attaching the periodic table washi tape to the grid straws (see yesterday's post for the sources) to make the flags for our popcorn snack bags. Filling notebook Little Bitty Bags with popcorn makes even this simple treat perfect back to school themed fun.

Must Haves For Your Back To School Party

I have a stash of items that are perfect for a back to school/end of school/graduation party. Some of them are from unexpected places and probably a few you have never heard of...so, I put them all together to give you a little 'must haves' shopping guide...

Not your typical must haves for your back to school party

The best part? Many of these items can be used for other types of parties; my beakers and flasks have seen many a Halloween/mad scientist party and the table runner is perfect all year round!

When did it become August? We are just getting into our summer groove and now it's time to think about back to school! With middle and high school boys, keeping them well-fed is always a priority! They are always on the go, from early morning band practice to afterschool sports and activities.

Ghostbusters Inspired Back To School Snack Ideas

Like many parents, we have a busy schedule but I always want them to have something a little special from home.  I'm teaming up with MARS Wrigley to share two fun snack ideas inspired by this summer's blockbuster Ghostbusters; a sweet and tasty Kellogg’s Froot Loops™ popcorn bark and a post-practice energy trail mix with Kellogg's Frosted Flakes® plus a free printable you can download and use!

Both snacks are easy to make and stored in white ice cream tubs to keep them fresh and ready to throw into a lunchbox, backpack or sports bag.  The best part, you can find almost everything you need at Walmart.

If You Give A Moose A Muffin-Themed Baby Shower

This is a great way to build baby's library for a first time mom or a repeat mom who has lots of gear and clothes...but not a lot of books that survived older siblings.

Book Themed Baby Shower Book Plates

I haven't thrown a baby shower in a while, real or styled!  All of my friends have passed this stage of life, so I had to create a shoot to get the creative urge out.  Inspired by my boys' favorite book from back in the day, Laura Joffe Numeroff's If You Give A Moose A Muffin, is a great start for a book-themed baby shower where guests are invited to bring their favorite book from childhood to start baby's library.

A great activity for a book-themed baby shower, coloring book plates!

Coloring book plates is a great activity and ice breaker for your guests; I'm not a big fan of the traditional baby shower games (melted chocolate candy in a diaper??).   I jumped on the adult coloring bandwagon and designed a free book plate download to coordinate with our baby shower.  Of course, they can work for any shower theme.

Don't mind my coloring skills...it's been awhile.  Guess I should sit down and do more coloring...

Be sure and check out the full shower on Moms & Munchkins.
